Earth's Climate: Change in a Warming World guides students as they learn what climate is and how Earth's climate is changing as people add more greenhouse gases to the air. The book explains that climate isn't the same thing as weather. Weather is what you see when you look out the window, while climate is the average weather (and extremes) you can expect in a particular place. Students learn that the Sun's energy powers our climate and that the composition of Earth's atmosphere determines how much heat from the Sun stays in our atmosphere. The book explains how an increase in gases such as carbon dioxide in our air is making Earth’s climate warmer. Students read about some of the possible consequences of that change in our climate. At the end of each two-page spread, a brief statement called The Bottom Line reinforces students’ understanding by summing up the key ideas about Earth's climate covered in those pages.
