Earth’s Natural Resources: Nature’s Gifts opens students’ eyes to the many natural resources that they depend on every day. Students discover that interactions between living and nonliving things in Earth’s biosphere provide these resources. For example, living things help to move nonliving resources such as oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen through the biosphere so that these resources are always available. Students also learn about the importance of using resources wisely, including choices students can make, so that our precious resources remain plentiful and useable. At the end of each two-page spread, a brief statement called The Bottom Line reinforces students’ understanding by summing up the key ideas about natural resources covered in those pages.
